pioneer

The Pioneer is Nazca's classic travel recumbent. Since the introduction of the Pioneer in 2001, there has probably been no other recumbent bike with so many long-distance journeys. The secret? Two identical wheels, an indestructible steel frame and simple but through and through reliable technology. This makes the Pioneer a comfortable and very stable travel recumbent bike. While the Gaucho is a worthy successor to the Pioneer, the Pioneer is still an excellent and popular alternative. The Pioneer model 2018 is a fully developed recumbent bike with a strong price/performance ratio. What is good doesn't need to be changed!

shorter cranks

The Pioneer is suitable for cyclists with a minumum height of approx. 170 cm. With a shorter body height, the problem is not so much the seat height as the available space between the pedal and the front wheel. Shorter cranks can solve this problem in some cases.

understeer

The indirect understeer (with a steering rod as a connection between handlebars and fork) enables the optimum position of the pivot point. As a result, the turning radius of the recumbent is relatively small and you have great control over the recumbent. The step-up and seat height are relatively low for a 26" recumbent, the understeer is not in the way.

reliable travel recumbent

With its maintenance-free rear suspension and shock absorber, durable coating and good mudguards, the Pioneer is built for many miles and can withstand bad weather. Due to the large 26" wheels, the riding behaviour is relaxed and predictable. The ChromeMolybdenum steel frame and the rear suspension make the bike very comfortable and extremely reliable.

tiller steer

You can also choose a tiller steerer for the Pioneer. The picture shows a length-adjustable aluminium tiller steer, for threaded 1 1/8" head bearing. The brake and derailleur cables run outside the steerer tube. The hinge mechanism is equipped with a fixed stop forwards and an adjustable stop for the steerer height.

V-brake or disc brake frontwheel

In case of the Pioneer, the pulling chain runs relatively low over the standard front brake (V-brake). This may cause problems for long persons, with the chain touching the brake. A disc brake is a good alternative in this case.

V-brake or disc brake rear

The rear fork is suitable for V-brakes and disc brakes and for basically any gear- or cassette hub with a built-in width of 135 mm. The rear fork is equipped with a mounting point for a kick stand.

luggage carrier

The carrier consists of 12 mm aluminium tube and is suitable for loads of up to 25 kg, when evenly distributed. An additional option are the lowrider brackets, which allow you to carry two extra bags.

lighting

The headlight is a very powerful Busch und Müller LED lamp, type Cyo Premium T senso plus 3W/6V. A top-quality German brand with a luminous intensity of up to 80 lux. The lamp is equipped with sensor technology so that day and night lighting and standby lighting (3 minutes) can be switched on automatically.

hub-dynamo

A hub dynamo is a very reliable and efficient way to generate power for your lighting or GPS. Maintenance-free and completely silent: you won't notice anything at all while riding. The alternator power is 3W/6V.

shorter cranks

For people with a smaller stature, a crankset with shorter cranks can be mounted, 155 mm instead of 170 mm. In general, this gives more play compared to the front wheel, a higher pedal cadance and less flexion and stress on the knees.

lowrider brackets

With the lowrider brackets you can take 2 extra bags with you without any problem, because the extra weight is optimally placed between the wheels. These brackets consist of aluminium tube with a diameter of 12 mm and have a maximum load of 2 x 15 kg. The brackets are suitable for small and large bags, such as Ortlieb's.

mechanical disc brakes

The mechanically operated disc brakes, type AVID-BB7, are very reliable and easy to adjust thanks to the cable control. You do not need any special tools for this. The braking effect of mechanically operated disc brakes is more than sufficient under almost all circumstances, even with a lot of luggage.

hydraulic disc brakes

Hydraulic disc brakes offer a great deal of braking power, can be operated with little manual force and are excellent for dosing. Once properly installed, they are virtually maintenance-free and all you have to do is replace the brake pads from time to time. The maximum disc diameter is 160 mm.

stainless tiller steer

It is also possible to mount an adjustable stainless steel tiller steerer. With this type of steer, the brake and derailleur cables run through the steerer tube. The hinge mechanism is equipped with a fixed stop forward and an adjustable stop for adjusting the steering height. The stainless steel tiller steer is strong, very functional and remains good looking, even after years of cycling in all types of weather.

kickstand

The Pletscher stand is solidly attached to the rear forks. A kickstand is an indispensable part of your recumbent in daily use.

headrest

Many recumbent cyclists like a headrest. The support is fully adjustable and therefore always fits. The stainless steel bars can be bent slightly for the correct position of the support.

Ventisit cushion

Ventisit has been a popular brand for recumbent cushions for many years. The material has a very good ventilation effect, offers a lot of comfort, does not absorb any water and has a long life span. The cushion is attached with velcro and can therefore be removed quickly.

colour choice

Colour is important. Do you have special requirements? We can supply a large number of non-standard colours as an extra option. Please let us know which RAL number you want. Then we will check if we have the colour available.
